January 18, 2019 The company Tramwaje Śląskie S.A. and "TOR-KRAK" Sp. z o.o. signed a contract for the modernization of the track along Kasprzaka street in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The works are to start in March and will last until April 2020. This is the first investment task with EU funding, carried out in Dąbrowa Górnicza.
Contract value: approx. PLN 63 million gross
The investment will be carried out by "TOR-KRAK" Sp. z o.o. selected through a tender procedure. This is the first task of modernizing the track infrastructure in Dąbrowa Górnicza, implemented as part of an EU infrastructure project. - The task includes the reconstruction of the tram infrastructure along Kasprzaka street, from the Budowców Huta Katowice roundabout to the intersection with Back-up facilities along with a part of the Gołonóg loop. A total of 5,800 meters of single track will be rebuilt, and the length of the modernized section of the double-track line is approx. 2.8 km - says Bolesław Knapik, President of the Management Board of Tramwaje Śląskie S.A.
The investment consists of, among others replacement of the track substructure, foundation of new poles and installation of a new traction network, reconstruction of stop platforms, laying of a new track, construction of track and road crossings and pedestrian crossings.

The modernization of the double-track line makes it possible to carry out the works while maintaining the tram traffic on one track, with temporary, short stops for the time of installation of technological turnouts and carrying out other works where it is necessary to stop traffic, e.g. reconstruction of road and tram crossings. - A specific project for the organization of tram traffic will be prepared in cooperation with the company Tramwaje Śląskie S.A. and the Metropolitan Transport Authority with the contractor - announces Andrzej Zowada, spokesman for Tramwaje Śląskie S.A.
According to the provisions of the contract, the company "TOR-KRAK" has 15 months to complete the task. This means that all works should be completed by April 18, 2020. - As January is not the best time to start this type of construction work, and the contractor still has to complete various formalities related to the takeover of the construction site, the works will actually start in March. At that time, the first problems with the tram traffic should be expected - explains Andrzej Zowada.
The task "Reconstruction of the tram track separated along ul. Kasprzaka in Dąbrowa Górnicza from the intersection of Piłsudskiego street and Kasprzaka street to the intersection of Kasprzaka street and Back-up facility "is an element of the" Integrated Project for the modernization and development of tram infrastructure in the Silesian-Zagłębie Agglomeration.
